How to choose a meaningful name for your Muslim baby girl

When choosing a name for a girl, Muslims have several possibilities. It is recommended to name a Muslim child after women mentioned in the Qur'an, the Prophet Muhammad's family members, or other Companions of the Prophet. There are many other meaningful female names which are also popular. There are some categories of names which are prohibited to use for Muslim children.

Prophet Muhammad's Family Members

Many Muslims honor the members of the Prophet Muhammad's family by naming girls after them. The Prophet Muhammad had four daughters, and his wives are known as the "Mothers of the Believers."

The Companions of the Prophet Muhammad were honorable people and well-known in Islamic history. One could name a daughter after one of these women.
