Basics of Islam

Q. What do Muslims believe, and where can I learn more about the faith?

A. First, you should visit the Basics of Islam index.  Then you can peruse the Subject links to the left of each page, for specific topics such as "Women in Islam" or "Islamic History."  Feel free to browse around a little!

Homework and School Projects

Q. I'm doing a school report about Islam - can you help me?

A. While I won't write your paper for you, you may find resources on the About Islam site that can help you.  Check the Subject Library for a list of topics and resources.  Also be sure to check your local or school library.

Scholarly Opinions and Fatwas

Q. Can you tell me if something is halal or haram?  Can you give me personal advice?

A. When something is clear in Islamic teachings, I will do my best to answer your questions with appropriate citation from Islamic sources.  However, I am not an Islamic scholar and am unprepared to answer detailed questions about Islamic law or jurisprudence.  Please visit the Islamic Law index page for a list of sites where you can get scholarly advice.

Finding Information

Q. I can't find what I'm looking for.  Help!

A. I would be happy to help you find what you're looking for.  But before you email me with your request, please take a close look at our Subject Library.  You may be able to find the information you seek there.  In addition, there's a Search Box at the top of this and every page where you can type in keywords related to your topic.  If you still can't find what you need, post a note in the Islam Discussion Forum.

Link/URL Submissions

Q. I'd like to submit a link.  What's the best way?

A. Suggestions for new links should be submitted by email to islam.guide@about.com.  I will review the links and add them if appropriate.  I cannot guarantee that a link will be added, and the review of link submissions can take several weeks.  Thank you very much!
