Welcome to the Islam Forum, hosted by Huda, your About.com Guide. You are invited to use this forum for networking with others, sharing your ideas, asking questions, and giving and receiving support in an Islamic atmosphere of brotherhood/sisterhood. We ask only that those posting messages adhere to proper Islamic manners, by greeting each
other properly, avoiding harsh or vile language, and keeping the discussion to the topic of Islam. Please review the full User Agreement and the following FAQ's before posting.
Please use thought and caution when responding to messages, and cite valid Islamic sources when making statements about the faith. When reading messages, please realize that the Islam Forum is frequented by Muslims, Christians, Jews, Hindus, pagans, and atheists alike. Anything written without source citation from the Qur'an or Hadith is that author's opinion only, and should not be taken as the authentic teachings of the faith of Islam.
F.A.Q.
Q. Who can use the Islam Forum?
A. The Islam Forum is intended to be a meeting place for the Muslim community. Non-Muslims are welcome as guests to ask questions or learn more about Islam, as long as this is done so with respect for the faith.
Q. Do I have to register to use the Forum?
A. You can enter as a guest and read posts, but you must register before you can post or answer a post that's already there. Registering is quick, simple, and free. Please join us!
Q. Are there limits to the topics of discussion?
A. The board is intended to be a meeting place for discussing the faith of Islam.
There are certain topics that have proved to incite division within the Muslim community, and which tend to overwhelm the Forum with rude, never-ending debate. Therefore, in order to preserve the integrity of the Forum, the following topics are closely regulated:
Divisions of Islam (Shi'ism, Sufism, etc.)
Atheism (debate on the existence of God)
Hadith as a source of Islamic guidance
Q. Are there rules of behavior?
A. Yes. Users are expected to use Islamic manners: treat others with respect, greet each other politely, and refrain from name-calling or intentional insult. Also keep in mind that this site is used by people of all ages and all faiths. In order for it to remain a site that everyone can use, posts that use offensive language or personal insults will need to be removed. Those who routinely make such posts will face loss of board privileges.
Q. Don't Muslims believe in free speech? Why do users have to follow rules when using the Forum?
A. Muslims uphold the basic human right to freedom of expression. This freedom is balanced with a responsibility not to use this right carelessly, thoughtlessly, or slanderously.
U.S. constitutional rights to "free speech" do not apply in a privately-owned and operated forum. Users of the Islam Forum agree to follow the guidelines outlined here, as well as in the About.com User Agreement. The Guide and About.com have full rights to exclude or limit a user's participation at their discretion.
Q. Are my questions answered by Islamic scholars?
A. No. While we welcome the participation of those knowledgeable on matters of faith, we cannot guarantee that the responses of Forum members are grounded firmly in the teachings of Islam. If you are looking for a scholar's opinion on a specific question, please visit the links on the Islamic Law page.
Q. Where can I get answers to other questions I have about Islam?
A. This Forum is the ideal place to post your questions about Islam. You'll be able to draw on the collective wisdom of a large community of people with an interest in Islam. If you would like to read more about Islam, please visit the About Islam main page.
