Islamic History Professor needed for Stanford University
Dear colleagues:
Please bring this announcement to the attention of any suitable candidates. The History Department of Stanford University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in modern Islam, mid-18th century to the present, at the level of assistant professor to begin September 1, 1999. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or receive their degree before beginning employment. The geographical locus of the candidate's research interests may be Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia or South Asia. The department is especially interested in candidates whose interests range across national boundaries. The successful candidate will be able to teach basic lecture courses on the core concepts of Islamic religion and culture and modern trends in Islam as well as advanced courses in his or her area of specialization.
