| Cat Stevens Sings Again For Peace | |
| Yusuf Islam performs his old hit "Peace Train" for NYC benefit concert | |
When
Cat Stevens embraced Islam and left the music industry in the late
1970's, many mourned the loss of a music legend. His melodious
voice and soul-searching lyrics have survived the decades in the
hearts of his fans. Among Muslims, Yusuf Islam (as Stevens
is now known) has been regarded as a humble and pious brother in faith, who uses
his God-given talents to help the community. He has been involved over the
years in many educational and philanthropic projects, and has inspired thousands
with his story of finding faith in Islam. Through his production company,
Mountain of Light, he has continued to make music, but of an Islamic nature - anasheed
in praise of Allah. Yusuf Islam has avoided the limelight, and has not
performed his old songs publicly in over twenty years. That is, until last
Saturday night at The Concert for New York
City. In a pre-show interview,
Yusuf offered his thoughts about the horrific events of September 11th, and
answered some common questions about his life as a Muslim. Then, after
laughingly admitting that he no longer owned a guitar, he offered a beautiful a
cappella performance of his old hit song, "Peace Train." If you missed
it, don't worry! The taped interview is now online, along with his emotional rendition of this timeless classic. Interview with Yusuf Islam
