Virginia Congressman Virgil Goode has publicly criticized plans for a newly-elected member of Congress to hold the Qur'an
during his swearing-in ceremony. Rep.-elect Keith Ellison (D-MN), a long-time convert to Islam, has planned to swear on the Qur'an when he officially joins Congress
next month. In a public letter reported by CNN, Rep. Goode
said that such a move should not be allowed, in order to "preserve the values and beliefs traditional to the United States." His letter went on to call for immigration
reform so that more Muslims would not be allowed to come to this country.
