I firmly believe that the United States of America should be on this list. We have numerous Masajid and Islamic centers across the country, and halal food is readily available, not only in Muslim-owned stores but also in main stream grocery store chains. There also are plentiful restaurants that offer halal menus, and in cities such as New York one also can enjoy Halal Street food. As far as accommodation is concerned, while there may be no designated halal facilities, nevertheless, lodgings are sensitive to specific dietary needs of their guests. As an American Muslim, I am proud of my country and wish to add that contrary to widespread misconception, we enjoy the same freedom as all Americans, as well as the right to practice our faith.

Not that I’ve been there, but I know enough Muslims who have, to say that Andalucia in Spain should also be on the list. It is possibly one of the most interesting chapters of Muslims history, has good food, pleasant climate, beautiful scenery and is actually very welcoming of guests from the Muslim world.

Yes, Saudi Arabia is ranked 5th in this survey. The company conducting the survey explained that Saudi Arabia is normally considered a destination for religious pilgrimage, and has only recently been added to the list as a “tourism” spot for Muslims. So it’s due mainly to the definition of “tourism” and recent efforts by the Saudi government to promote tourism to other areas of the country apart from religious pilgrimage.
