Do Muslims Celebrate Christmas?

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem,

Christan celbrate christmas because “they think that Jesus(PBUH) was born on 25th Decmbr”. However Jesus(PBUH) was not born on 25th of Dec, this 25th Dec was the date of the birth of the paygan’s “Sun god” (Baal,horus,apolo etc) which were worshipd in the meditrainian region. When empror constantine converted to christanity he forced these paygan theories( in the council of nicea long after Jesus(PBUH) like Trinity,son of god etc. read about Horus u’ll understand what I am talking about.

The Quran as well as the bible confirms that he was not born on 25th Dec.

Quran tell us very clearly that when Jesus(PBUH) was born his mother marry(pbuh) was told to shake the palm leaf and it will let fall fresh ripe date.

ripe dates u’ll get in mid summer not mid winter.

Bible say when Jesus (PBUH) was born the shephrds were out in the feilds with thr sheeps, Now shepherd and thr sheeps will freez to death if they stay out in feilds in mid winter in Pelestine.

people are reading thr scriptures, but they dont really ponder over what they are reading.

Now the answer to the main question is that we muslims do not celbrate christmas because:-

1- jesus (PBUH) was not born on 25th Dec.

2- We dont believe that he was god or his own begotten son.

Allah says in the Quran:-

And they say: the Beneficent hath taken unto Himself a Son. Assuredly ye utter a disastrous thing, whereby almost the heavens are torn, and the earth is split asunder and the mountains fall to ruins, that ye ascribe to the Beneficent a son, when it is not meet for (the Majesty of) the Beneficent that He should chose a son. There is none in the heavens and the earth but cometh unto the Beneficent as a slave. (Qur’an 19:88-93)

If you’ll read these verses and for a moment just think that it is you GOD speaking, wht comes to your mind.

We dont atribute animal nature (eating,drnking,sex, begetting a son) to God. Because Allah is pure and above all such animal qualites.

3- This is the first commandment of the 10 given to Moses(PBUH) ‘I am the LORD your God ONE: ‘You shall have no other gods before Me.’

Our shahada says “I testify that there is no true god (deity) but God (Allah), and that Muhammad is a Messenger (Prophet) of God.”

How can we date to recognize, wish, celbrate “Christmas” (which is in memory of a prophet whom people have taken as “god”)???

I’m a Christian who celebrates Christmas but I don’t believe that Christ was born on December 25th. It’s just a day we choose to celebrate his birth. If I knew the actual day then I’d celebrate it on that day.

After taking Shahada I chose to stop celebrating Xmas because we are told not to worship any other than Allah.
Christmas is a Pagan Festival. Please simply put into Google “The real origins of Christmas” and you will see it was a celebration derived to satisfy both the Pagan non believers and Christians alike. It is an amalgamation of Pagan rituals like the use of holly, ivy, tree worshipping and so forth. Even the Bible tells us not to decorate trees with silver and Gold as this is what was done as a form of daiety worship in Pagan times.
During xmas time I withdraw my kids from the last week of school and always have done so they dont ever feel they’re missing out as they’ve never celebrated it or got caught up in the hype. Additionaly they view it as forbidden. We do however wish our neighbours a peaceful holiday andf send Happy New Year Cards so no one really feels we are cutting ourselves off.
Many Christians, particularly 7th Day Adventists who take the Bible literally also do not celebrate this Pagan festival. It is in effect a load of pagan ritual built up around our dear Prophet Isa, (Jesus – Peace and blessings be upon him). We cannot be Muslims without respecting the Bible and all the prophets of the Bible. Most of our fundemenatal beliefs are there for us all to share and adhere to wether we are Jewish, Christian or Muslim.

Christmas, to Christians, is a time to remember the birth of a great, important man in history. It is a time to celebrate, to be with family, to reflect on our blessings and to thank God for all we have. We DO NOT worship: trees, ivy, holly, etc. They are symbols taken from countries all over the world. Christmas is a happy, joyous time, and it sickens me that someone would bring up paganism during this time. This just shows ignorance!

I find it awful for people to be so negative towards a religion that might not be our own. I understand that we all have our own views on things. We should be able to express them without being criticized or discriminated against. Let’s remember all religions lead to heaven.

It’s confusing to me that a muslim man can marry a christian woman but than they are told they should not be in the home of someone celebrating Christmas. That does not make sense to me.

Also, has anyone ever consider the non-religious part of Christmas? Honestly, I will miss the fantasy of Santa and my kids coming down the stairs to presents under the tree…none of which has to do with the birth of Jesus and is not in the Koran. But a tradition that most adults have fond memories of.

How does Santa, Easter Bunny and Halloween truly hurt a child’s upbringing since most children today are not aware of the “history” behind them

I am a muslim and fully agree with Megan, everyone celebrate their occasion and worship in their own ways that makes them happy and fulfill. God (Allah) put every living thing on earth be it Human, Animal or Plant—— what is the purpose of criticizing instead of being happy for others or paying attention to oneself. Jesus was born in Jerusalam(sp?) which if I am not mistaken in December it is summer there, while it is winter here in the states, besides no one knows for sure when he was born, some say he was born in the spring also, we as christians observe it then since no one knows for sure when it actually is

You are quite mistaken Emily. It’s as cold in Jerusalem as it is in New York right now. The mean temperature for Jerusalem is Daily Minimum 47.1 degrees F and Daily Maximum 57.2 degrees F (http://worldweather.wmo.int/013/c00043f.htm#wxforecast).

There are NO shepherds tending flocks in the hills surrounding Jerusalem in the winter. the whole Christmas story is a hoax as Zaigham Khan has illustrated and Muslims should have no part in it.

When Muslims are greeted by Christians with “Merry Christmas” we should be courteous, greet them in civility and not say “Merry Christmas” back to them. We can say, “Peace to you” and not be in the act of celebrating their pagan holiday and risking The Fire in that Great Day of Requital.

As a Muslim we strictly believe that the true Muslim has to follow Quraan and Sunnah. First we see revelations for a certain matter in Quraan . If we don’t found it we should look into Sunnah. Regarding the celebration of Christmas we don’t find any commandment in Quraan directly.But in Hadith we can find certain sayings of Prophet SAW.According to these He PBUH has declared two days to celebrate by the Muslims.One 1st of Shawal as Eidu-l-Fitr and the second day, 10th of Zilhajj as Eidu-l-Azha. So we have to follow these teachings about religious celebrations.

Let Christians believe as they will and celebrate Christmas as they see fit as far as religious reasons are concerned. As long as they keep it a religious experience and keep all the stupid commercialism out of it they are harming no one and only believe as they were taught from a young age. They cannot be condemned by anyone for that,even Allah. Not everyone has had the opportunity to experience Islam so it is not their fault for doing as they were taught in their religion as much as the same as Muslims try to do and believe in their faith. Same goes for the Jews,Protestants,Mormons and so one. No one has the right to shove their personal beliefs down anyone elses throat! That is why the world is constantly at war!!!

Muslims only have the word of a man to base their beliefs on. What proof can you offer other than the word of Muhammad, who was only a man just like all men. For you to say you have the only true religion is no different than Christians saying they have the true religion. What proof did Muhammad give other than his word ? At least Jesus died on the cross to prove his resurection was an act of God. Did Muhammad heal the sick, give sight to the blind, and offer his life for all mankind?? The answer to that is No. Jesus was pure, he never married and never gave in to the temptations of things of this world. Your Muhammad did marry and gave in to those temptations of the flesh. So that made Jesus more pure and free from worldly temptations.

Most people celebrate Christmas as a secular holiday; I do that.

I was ensnared by religion (mostly Christian-type) for many years of my life, wasting my lifetime. At last, I recognized the fact that there are no gods, none at all. Now I am free to be a good person, free from the evils promoted by religions.

If it was made right threw Grace and Mercy for the Jews to see all men as Gods sevents, then it is just as good for all Muslims to see all men as God servents, and fellowship together for the Glory of God.

Wether Christian or Muslim good deeds alone are not enough to enter into the Kingdom of heaven. If this was So…. no need for a savior would required. However, an atonement must be made for each who will enter. That atonement is Jesus the sone of God the Lamb without spot. For where there is sin an atonement of innocent Blood must be made. That is Blood with out sin. So it is in the faith of this atonement we are cleaned of our sins. Not through good deeds and much work. Although they are profitable they will not atone for sin. Do not be fooled by men. God has been clear.

No prophet can do this … only the Messiah, who was chosen by God to come through the Jews.. Like it or not that was Gods choice. I am a gentile adopted into the family of God through the Son, and in the faith of Abraham I am bought into the family of Israel. Not a people of birth, but of faith. So it makes no difference if your are from Isaac or Ishmael the point of their births was and allegory, A way for God to Show that those who believe in his promise are the true children of God.. i myself celebr8 Christmas as I want to with my family, the spirit of Christmas is about giving,sharing,loving and living in peace. I’m not sure if Jesus was really born in December but that’s what all Christians know that he’s birthday is Dec 25. Maybe that’s the date the Church assigned for all of us to celebr8.

Why do muslims think we (Christians) will burn in hell for not following the Quran, but believe they will go to heaven by blowing up innocent people and committing suicide? If Allah is this evil, then what is Satan like?

I am a convert and I have a christmas tree this year. I also have 2 kids and a muslim (religious) husband. I dont know what Christmas really means and whats the story.. I DO NOT CARE… I know that christmas tree brings joy into my heart. (I guess not in my husbands s..:) Joy and Hapiness that I had since I was a little girl… its my tradition.. I DO NOT FEAR GOD, I love him… and I sudgest you dont fear him either.. I notices that many muslims dont love God and just full of fear… I think its wrong.. LOVE will save the world not hate.. all holidays are good if their bring smiles on the peoples faces,, God knows Best,, remember that and dont rush to judge… oh year,, if you thinking about my husband.. he is a great man. He HATES my idea.. but there is no fights.. yes, I might sound like a bad one.. but I believe if he doesnt support my traditions while I am respecting and celebrating his, we may just change directions of our life together..

In Islam understanding, religion is not merely of feeling in the heart, but it requires humbleness and submission to the Conducts of Allah, those are stated in the Qur’an. That’s why it might be ‘expected’ to meet comments from Muslims sounding like something strict, fearful, while in fact we do those just feeling light, by heart and feeling no burden. However, in Islam, Islamic teaching belongs to the system by Allah, the only God, through which people can do anything from private matters to economic transaction, from those belongs to family’s to the politics with the Guidance. It’s a pity today;s world is packed full with solely worldly matters that makes some of us think that religion is an escape, prayer is merely of emotional thing, etc. What we must do is turn our perpective toward religion. Yes, we experience worldly matters now, but what is it after we leave this world? Islam comes, linking what it is now perceived as worldly matters into what it can do to your life after this world. Wallahu a’lam bisshawab.

Here is what the Quran also says about Christians and other ‘unbelievers’. These are just a few.

“O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness.” Quran (9:123)

“I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them” – Quran (8:12)

“And the Jews say: Ezra is the son of Allah; and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah destroy them; how they are turned away!” – Quran (9:30)

“Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no authority”. – Quran (3:151)

“They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they): But take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (From what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their ranks.” – Quran (4:89) -

“Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.” – Qur’an (9:29)

“If they refuse to accept Islam, demand from them the Jizya. If they agree to pay, accept it from them and hold off your hands. If they refuse to pay the tax, seek Allah’s help and fight them” – Muslim (19:4294)

Jesus Christ is the son of God; Jesus Christ is also God, as God is a Trinity- He is Three in one, The Father- God, The Son- Jesus Christ, & The Holy Ghost. As a Christian, that is what I believe to be truth- Muslims believe something different- That is fine; We are all children of God, and the way in which we seek Him is our path to be with Him when we die. No matter what belief one follows, if you are steadfast and truthfully, you will find God and be rewarded in Heaven. As a Christian I cannot condem my fellow man for his beliefs- If they are true and honest, he will be rewarded by spending eternity with Him. Praise God, Praise the Lord, Praise Allah.

We do not celibrate christmas, Easter or any man made holliday.

We celibrate Passover

Christmas ?. We celibrate at New Year that does not have Santa or the Nativity.

We hold to all of Moses Hollidays and Jesus is the chief cornerstone of all Hollidays.

The most important thing for Muslims not to celebrate Christmas is the instruction of our Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW . According to it He told to His pious companions (Ashab) that every nation has some days to celebrate and I give you two days to celebrate; one first of Shawal (10th month of Islamic Calendar) after Ramadan (9th month of Islamic Calendar) as Eid-ul-Fitr and the second 10th of Zilhaj (12th month of Islamic Calendar) as Eid-ul-Azha.So according to the teachings of Islam we should follow the Quraan and Sunnah. We see that Quraan has not given a direct revelation in this matter so we have to follow Sunnah which is the second most important source of Islamic jurisprudence.

Samash’s comments on the issue is quite simple and straight forward. Follow Qura’n and Sunnah of the Prophet for the basic truth and the truth shall make you free. Don’t follow family relations and friends to nullify your Islam. Salaam to all.

So the church tied Roman festivals to christianity to make the religion seem more palatable to the pagan Romans, is that any different then Mohmmad at first praying toward Jerusalem to intice them into Islam? Celebrating Christmas does not make one a christian. That does not mean that Islam is the true religion either…..let us just say the jury is still out.

GOD created man with the faculty of knowledge and understanding and commanded him to worship HIM alone and warned him of satan and his temptations. satan corrupted the religion of true worship of God and caused man to spread mischief on the land which prompted God to send messengers including Jesus and Muhammud (peace be upon them) with the universal message-”that there is no god but ME and worship ME alone” at different tiimes.unfortunately all messages got corrupted except the Quran.for right destination one has to choose right way and if any think that he can reach the heaven by any way then he is mistaken.many christian- turned- muslims bear witness to Truth of Islam and blame muslims for not doing their job of conveying the message to others. please take time to read Quran with unbiased mind and i am sure it will change your idea. salam.

Peace and blessings to you all. I read the comments above and I see so much hatred and condemnation towards the other religion. I wonder why there is so much religion, yet so little love. We can enlighten ourselves without being harsh about it.

I am a Muslim, and I do not celebrate Maolud Nabiyy (supposed to be the birthday of the prophet Muhammad) neither do I celebrate Christmas or even my birthdays. Have you checked the origin of birthdays? Birthday celebrations are rooted in paganism and astrology. In the Hebrew Bible, the one single mention of a celebration being held in commemoration of someone’s day of birth is for the Egyptian Pharaoh. The ancient world of Egypt, Greece, Rome, and Persia celebrated the birthdays of gods, kings, and nobles. Rather than have an elaborate celebration, I instead use the day to reflect and thank God for the gift of life just like I do most days. If a birthday must be marked for Jesus, it should not be on Dec. 25 which is another date with Paganism. We can use modern technology to determine the exact date of birth of Jesus and correct aptly, and the Church should even sponsor this.

Jesus is a very reverred figure in Islam as in Christianity. Infact when Jesus is mentioned in the Muslim world, we ask for the peace and blessings of God to be upon him. Jesus is a servant of God though as he mentioned himself in some verses in the bible. Jesus did not call himself ‘son of God’ but referred to himself as the ‘son of man’. The ‘son of God’ term itself is symbolic and was not only used for Jesus by the apostles but for Adam as well. But people began to take the word literally and interprete the bible differently. And that was why God addressed this nascent misinterpretation of the person and role of Jesus at the time in the Qur’an. The Qur’an does not condemn the bible and infact instructs us to respect the torah and the gospel but it also addresses issues like this that will be of contention in the future.

In Islam, there are only two celebrations as Samash has rightly highlighted. The prophet or his companions never celebrated his birthdays. Neither should any of the followers of the prophet and his companions.

i am a christian i feel that none of us where there to write the bible or the koran or it probably would be writing in our way like they say its three sides to a story your side my side and the truth its like when microsoft or what ever the company was that the guy said he designed it and his roommate stole it we wasnt there so we dont know but what my pastor always says u dont have to come to his church but u need to believe in a God so whatever God you worship at least you believe that there is a God merry xmas, piece be with you, and happy holidays. As an American convert to Islam, I find this discussion comical, but do not intend any disrespect. We Muslims believe almost everything about Isa PBUH that Christians to, so I consider the matter to be fairly minor.

We Muslims seem to think that Muhammad PBUH is the Major Prophet, but it is Isa who had the virgin birth, and will return to do the will of Allah SWT to set the world right. So, does that not mean that Isa is something different than a mere prophet?

(1) the former was sent to the entire mankind (Quran) and the later was to the children of israel only (Quran). Pliz just compare the work load!!

There is no need of competition or ranking Prophets, Mustafa. Both Jesus (pbuh) & Mohammed (pbuh) are granted a closer place to God in Heaven than you or I could dream about. We need to worry about our own Afterlife and maybe if we can minimalise our sins, we may be granted the remotest corner of Heaven, which would still be beyond our fantasies.

I was born into a Muslim family but I am always impressed and inspired by the wisdom and knowledge of converts to Islam, like Hala and Ameena. These guys and gals have taken a huge step and continue to care about and respect Christian neighbors who disagree with their beliefs.

I don’t celebrate Christmas at home, but we exchange holiday gifts with our neighbors and the mail and trash guys. That’s normal in the US. I find it shame worthy that people are blogging their opinions rather than many facts. The Qur’anic verses and ahadith for the most part could have been chosen better, and the overt christian ideology of the ‘crucifiction’ and ressurection of the man christ doesn’t apply to this discusion. We do find it disturbing that parents feel the need to lie to our children about santas, bunnies, farries and other non sence to ‘bring them joy’, and then punosh them when they lie to us when they feel that we wont like the truth. I think anyone, Muslim, Jew, Christian… shows a complete disregard for human life by quoting verses from any religious book to justify their hatred, violence and/or disgust for any other group of people.

I’m a Christian, but I have some very dear friends who are Muslim and they have taken the time to get to know me and what kind of person I am on the inside, just as I have gotten to them and have found them beautiful. Our theology doesn’t always match up but our genuine desire to be honest, compassionate, loving, caring people does.

My father is an Anglican priest and I even grew up in a religious order. I could spout Christian theology with the best of them. I can quote from the Kuran too for that matter. The point is – I won’t – because religious beliefs are cemented in our person relationship with our God.

I will say that a lot of what is written in the bible are allegories or attempts to explain things in ways that we can understand and relate to because we cannot truly appreciate the vast power and scope of God. The bible is not always meant to be taken literally, it’s meant as a source for teaching and learning through discussion and commune. It worries me when people use texts to justify superiority and intolerance.

I’m a Muslim, but I have a question to my Muslim Brothers and Christian Brothers: As a Muslim, I’ve actually read the original (un-altered) texts of the Gospel. 99 % of my brothers have not. While the words a Muslim speaks are true 99% of the time, the 1% missing is what’s messing us up from bringing over a ton of Christians to converting to Muslim. Isah was crusified, died, and Allah showed how much power He really has, to bring him back from the dead and take him in physical living form to the Heavens as stated in the Koran. Because the Koran simply states that he was taken up, and because the original texts are never required reading, its thought that Isah did not die and was brought back .Why is this important? Because all Jews believe that there is one God (This makes them Muslim), and True Christians believe there is one God (This makes them Muslim), and all Muslims believe that Isah was born of a virgin Mary (English) this makes them Christians. There’s one more issue that we as Muslims need to address. Christians call Allah Father, they say Isah is there son. While 80% of them might have been mislead into truly believing this, there is a large percentage that call Allah father and Isah Son, because the word Father has multiple meanings as does son. Many of them understand this. If I say I love my father, mother, daughter, son, the sky, the stars, a dog, a friend – all are different forms of the word love. Even in language Allah shows how diverse He is. Father is a creator and son is a creation. If nailed down, we would all agree as Christians and Muslims and we would remove the TAGG of religion and say we are Allah followers.

Wow, I’m a recent convert to Islam, and if I wasn’t confused before reading this thread, I certainly am now. So many opinions being passed off as “fact”, from Muslims, Christians, and Jews alike. But anyway, as a recent convert to Islam from Catholicism, I do have fond memories of Christmas … Santa, presents, the Christmas Tree, the family dinner, and yes, especially the commercial hoopla of it all. With that said, I have made the conscious decision to put up my Christmas decorations as I have in the past, albeit minus that little porcelain nativity scene and the advent candles. But I will be putting up a tree with all the pretty lights and fancy trimmings, not because I chose to worship Jesus (PBUH), or a tree for that matter, but because I ENJOY the sights and sounds of the holiday season. While I will enjoy the season itself with the social gatherings, complete with fancy table settings and succulent dessert offerings, I will not celebrate what Christians refer to as “the reason for the season” … even as a Christian, I never really bought into that whole nativity story anyway, and always questioned its validity on several levels. If that made me a “bad Catholic”, then so be it … and if decorating my christmas tree with brightly colored spheres made of glass and having absolutely nothing to do with religion while sipping eggnog and listening to “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer” makes me a “bad Muslim”, then so be that as well. Somehow I doubt I’ll burn in eternal hell for it. But just in case … Astaghfiru-Allah.

wow. what a load of..well you know what. For me Christmas is just a time for people to make and spend money, eat loads of food and generally go back to times where I was a child and generally relax..eventually, with friends.

To be honest I think religion thru times is a load of hokus pokus written by men who were bored and its the biggest killer of the modern world. The things people do in the name of religion is very scary. If people want something to believe in then that;s cool, but do we have to actually have to let it rule our lives?

I live in a part of London that is very Muslim. The men get away with everything, drink, play around drive round in big cars and play loud music,make and spend loads of money..(thought that was against their religion, and against most religions?) then woman walk around totally covered up and do the shopping, take care of the kids and so on. The catholic priests live in closed environments and abuse kids.

The men that invented these religions were some of the best PR men ever. And the leaders of these religions are some of the richest men in the world men in the world. But sadly the human race would be totally lost the day ( if ever) that it’s proven that these religions were just a load of good writing from some good story tellers.Then god/Allah or whatever you call him..help us all.

My fiance is Muslim and i am Christian, does this mean that for Christmas he won’t be able to celebrate with me? i find it really unfair because i compromise and celebrate Eid with him. If Muslims believe in Jesus, why can’t they celebrate His birth?

Everyone knows Christmas started with paganism. That’s the first thing that comes up when you begin studying the origins of the holidays.
Most christians I know are aware and accept that most of our holiday traditions were derived from ancient pagan societies. It doesn’t degrade our beliefs at all and there’s no reason you have to choose to view it that way, it’s just history. It doesn’t have any bearing on your life, but to be closed minded is a dangerous state. You should always be willing to question everything you’re presented with because it is human nature to lie. Everyone lies, to each other and to themselves, and you need to research and gather as much information as you can before taking a firm stance on anything. Even then the most correct awnser is generally that you’re not very sure. There are too many variables in life to be very sure about anything.

All religions have the same root. It’s just many different ways of expressing the same thing, which is that what we are is LIFE. I think people get too caught up in the details and miss the bigger picture.
I can’t choose just one religion. They all have good things about them and bad things about them. My wonderful boyfriend however, is a strict believer in Mormonism. He talks about his beliefs and I talk about my beliefs. We never argue and we always end up expanding our minds and considering point of views we hadn’t before.

I guess what I’m saying is, who cares, can’t we all be brothers?

I think that its ok for muslims to celebrate Christmas, cause Christmas is just a memory of the birth of Jesus. I am a muslim, and I know the story of how Ashura was made, it was a day the Jews were celebrating, and then the prophet Muhammad adopted it into Islam saying that “We are prior to them from celebrating this day”, because it celebrates the day when Moses returned from the mountain in Egypt after meeting Allah.

1- The messenger Mohammad (alhi assalat wa assalam) is really a man like the others men . he walked in the market and ate meat (keddid) Allah (God) gave him a message ( the quran ) to the human being as a last messenger .This book is the proof (miracle) inside it you can find a lot of answers to many questions .For example the creation of a man is given in details . as sciences poof

So, according to all religions, it is our responsibility to witness, but the final word will be that of God, Allah, Yahweh, whomever we call our great architect and creator of all living and non-living things, maker of the laws for each of us would be. HE can weed it all out in the end, and we can explain our earthly decisions in front of HIM and then we will find out the real deal. And either thru the birth and sacrifice of Jesus or Isa(?), we will make it to the final destination and we will live for eternity praising our Father. I pray to see each and every one of you there, no matter which path we took to get there.

So Mr. Sid, celebrating “EID ul adah”, (an almost sacrifice), or “Eid al Fitra” the feast at the end of ‘your’ 30 day fast, and praising God and giving thanks to him is OK, but Christians paying homeage to the birth of our saviour whom shed his blood (an ‘Actual’ acrifice) to forgive our sins is wrong?

When confronted with the PAGAN origins of the Qur’an, some Muslims defend the Qur’an by answering, “So what! Didn’t you Christians get Christmas from the pagans?” This argument is erroneous for several reasons.
a. It is a false analogy to parallel the pagan origins of the rites commanded in the Qur’an with the present day voluntary holidays nowhere commanded in the Bible. What some modern day Christians do on Dec. 25th has no logical bearing on what the Qur’an COMMANDS Muslims to do (eg. the Pilgrimage, the Fast, etc.)
b. It is irrelevant that some Christians choose to voluntarily celebrate the birth of Christ. Since the Bible nowhere commands it, it is a matter of personal freedom. But Muslims are commanded in the Qur’an to believe and practice many things which came from the paganism of that day.

***Eid al-Fitr is an important Islamic holiday that involves many Muslims waking up early and praying either at an outdoor prayer ground or a mosque. Many Muslims dress in their finest clothes and adorn their homes with lights and other decorations. Old wrongs are forgiven and money is given to the poor. It’s an intersting discussion , but sadly Christmas has become a commercial event, instead of a religious festival. I refuse to subscribe to the American ‘Happy Holiday’ nonsense. No matter what religion people are let Christmas be a celebration of their beliefs. Ok. After reading all these comments I understand why people are atheist. Religions of all type are full of backbiting and hatred. People, examine yourself..I see God no where near this mess. I have many muslim friends that have wished me, Merry Christmas today. To be honest, I was confused why, because I didn’t think Muslims were suppose to acknowledge Christmas. On the other hand, I do have a Christian background but do not live a Christian life. So in the end, I’m screwed either way. Point is, if u do not live what your religion teaches then u r a hypocrite n will burn in hell the same as a sinner. So, to all the religious people fighting about this topic, drink some coffee and watch TV. I think God will get more glory from that then fighting over who is right or wrong regarding Christmas. I understand the original question has been answered. However, I would like to add my experience with religion and my experience with the people and their religions.

I was born a Buddhist and as I slowly educated myself I realized I wasn’t really living as a follower of Buddhism. At about 16 years old I decided I cannot call myself a Buddhist anymore. It no longer felt right. I felt like I was lying to myself. Instead, when asked about my religious background, I opted to answer with “jerfeism.” Now, Jerfei is my given name so that made most people laugh. After they’re done with their LOL’s, most times I would be dismissed as a freaking weirdo and the subject would change. Sometimes some folks would shoot back with, “that’s not a religion,” and I would counter with “isn’t religion essentially just a way of life?” Most agreed with this but some would get technical and break out the ol’ dictionary AKA google search. Anyway, with Jerfeism I was able to give an answer without feeling like a hypocrite. I always explained for those who were open minded enough to get past Jerfeism, that honestly I really didn’t know which religion to follow or even if following one is the answer.

Many people would try to ‘save’ me by attempting to convert me to believe in what they believe was ‘right’. I’ve attended many churches of all kinds, temples, religious groups, and taken religious studies classes. I have always kept an open mind. Who am I to say one belief is better or right compared to another? I have met some very true believers of their religion and also some who just call themselves or categorize themselves a certain religion but obviously wouldn’t live accordingly. For those who truly believe AND live by their ‘book’, I respect and enjoy their company as they are usually the more open minded ones. Then there are the many who I feel just want to belong to a ‘popular’ or ‘accepted’ religion. These homedudes could barely explain what their beliefs were and just simply relied on others knowing what their religion is about. For instance it’s sad when I discover a Christian who cannot explain to me how he/she differs from a Catholic or vice versa. What’s even more sad is that 70% or so of these ‘believers’ strut around during the ‘holidays’ proud, head up high for their faith but I found myself teaching them about THEIR good ‘book’. Then there are those who only act Christian during Christmas or act Catholic during Easter. I mean the self awareness level is pretty much non existant. Check it, will you still be ‘saved’ if you act like that?

I am Chinese-American, born on the east coast and raised on the west. With the Bill of Rights we have the right to choose and practice whatever religion we choose. They say that there’s no official religion in the United States but I’m no patsy. This country has national holidays catered to particular religions. You see, there is no Islam holiday here, no Buddhist day, no Hindu day, and most importantly no Jerfeism day. Feel me? Not all religions have a God or many gods but our currency reads ‘In God We Trust’. Here in Cali people celebrate Christmas from all kinds of religions. Seems like it’s so much easier to just follow than it is to lead. Or maybe the need to belong is too strong? Or they don’t feel Xmas is religious? Maybe to them, Xmas is about giving presents, questioning if Santa is real, and decorating trees with the fam? I grew up without Xmas bling or birthdays which I feel made me a stronger minded person but I understand how easily it could have went the other way. Jesus is separate from God

The Bible does not use the term ‘Trinity.’ However, the Bible refers to Father, Son (Jesus), and Holy Spirit as three persons in God, equal and of His essence (for detailed explanation, check out http://www.theopedia.com/Trinity). A couple verses: Matthew 28:19 and 2 Corinthians 13:14. Explaining the Trinity is difficult at best, but studying the Scripture will help. The term was developed to simply help us understand better with our finite minds.

Should Muslims or Christians Celebrate Christmas?

Xmas is not a festival to celebrate by a devoted Muslim even d Jehovah witness & seventh-day Adventist don’t celebrate it and they are more entitle to the celebration than us that belief in only only God, some Muslims have compromised their religion which shouldn’t be. Enjoyment of this life is very short pls my brothers & sisters if some so call christian can’t compromised their belief, don’t let us be deceived by Shaitan.

If someone asked me to join them I would politely refuse. However, since Jesus is recognised by islam, if only as a prophet, I will swap cards with my workmates.

The question of the date of Christmas is very misleading as the calender was in disarray in Roman times:

I believe that it is not up2 us human to judge others religion, i think it is best to just hold on to what you believe in and be faithful, no one knows exactly who is right and who is wrong, but i do kno that it is not upto us to judge others but it is up2 God, and i don’t believe that Jesus is God but i do believe that he was sent to this world to save us, and also as a passage for us or a chance for us to turn back to the father God…. For i am christian, and this is what i believe in, and i was reading in one of the comments posted on here that says Jesus is God and that he heals the sick and the blind, but the truth is, it was the power of the father God that did that through our saviour…..

Oh and another thing, we do not celebrate Christmas because we believe Jesus was born on that date, but we celebrate it in remembrance of His birth, for no one knows exactly when He was born, but for students, they celebrate it koz of the free presents and toys, and not forgetting, HOLIDAYS….

Everyday we should celebrate Jesus Christ’s Birth to our world because if he was not born, I am not sure where most of us would be. I believe that Christ did not come to condem, but to save. So if I believe in Jesus Christ, I feel as if I should carry myself the same way he did and not condem people for what their believe to hell, help them as much as I can as Jesus would. So if we celebrate Jesus’s birth everyday, no one can be wrong. But to those who celebrate it on a certain day, I wish you the best of days to give thanks and praise to Jesus.

I am a convert and I have a christmas tree this year. I also have 2 kids and a muslim (religious) husband. I dont know what Christmas really means and whats the story.. I DO NOT CARE… I know that christmas tree brings joy into my heart. (I guess not in my husbands s..:) Joy and Hapiness that I had since I was a little girl… its my tradition.. I DO NOT FEAR GOD, I love him… and I sudgest you dont fear him either.. I notices that many muslims dont love God and just full of fear… I think its wrong.. LOVE will save the world not hate.. all holidays are good if their bring smiles on the peoples faces,, God knows Best,, remember that and dont rush to judge… oh year,, if you thinking about my husband.. he is a great man. I am a Christian and i celebrate Christmas . Jesus is the Son of God . He was born to a Virgin Mary .He was born so that later he would die on the cross for our sins for all sinners even the Muslims and the Christian and every one else . We do not know his date of birth so we as Christian we celebrate it on December 25 th . It also a time of giving of gifts because Jesus was a gift to the earth . Holly ,mistle toe evergreen trees are just traditions from other countries that we have adopted that make the holiday brighter and an essence to the day . Santa has many versions but i was raised with the story of how the little Dutch children would put their wooden shoes out and they would wake in the morning and find goodies in them and today we hang stockings instead. This country of Canada has always embraced Christmas it is part of Canadian heritage and all are welcome to enjoy . About the pegan part it was never a part of my up bringing and do not concern myself with such nonsense .

As a recent convert from Catholicism to Islam, I came here curious to see what others have to say regarding this issue. I have spent my entire life celebrating Christmas and will continue to do so. Christmas is my favorite time of year, and although I do not need to celebrate it as the “birth of Jesus Christ, son of God” (as it’s true know one knows the exact date and we believe the Jesus son of Mary is a prophet of God) we still have love and respect for Jesus, there is no reason not to celebrate the occasion of his birth. I also enjoy the music, the lights, the decorations, etc. It does not mean that I “worship” them. The Christmas season is not all about one day, anyway, it’s a season of goodwill, peace, joy, being with family, eating great holiday food, giving and receiving gifts, etc. My son still believes in Santa Claus. I would not take that experience away from him nor deny my family who is not Muslim the chance to celebrate with us. To those who are so Anti-Christmas, do the origins really matter? You can make your choice how you and your family choose to celebrate. It’s a beautiful holiday, it’s not hurting anyone, people enjoy their Christmas traditions every year and it’s a good reminder of how we should behave to our fellow man all year, just as Ramadan reminds us how we should live the year round. If you want to take it that seriously, that is your choice, but then you are only choosing to miss out. Islam teaches us to open our hearts and be tolerant of others, and not to force our beliefs on others. There is no where the says Muslims should not celebrate Christmas, and this is what I choose for my family because it’s who we are.

My comment is that i am a christian, but i am open to all religions. until they make up their own roles, dont ever judge anyone for what they believe, but how they treat other people, whatever their religion or origin. we all have to remember we all feel pain in the same way

I am a non believer but I am married to a Muslim man,I respect his religion 100/ but I have 1problem he don’t allow me to do Christmas! I celebrate eid and bayram but he don’t allow me to celebrate anything I love my husband so so much I am frightened this is going to make are break us as I have 3children to a past relationship and 2children to my husband now! Someone please help me I am in a bad situation sometimes a cry at night it’s hard

My answer is both; yes and no. First of all religious muslim believes in Jesus. Christmas means different things here in the USA and in other countries. In other countries Christmas means praying, and celebrating Jesus, but here means bunch of gifts open in the morning, a lot of money spend, while almost nobody prays for the reason they’re celebrating. So, anybody can celebrate Christmas in USA, just buy a gift and you’re all set, so religious muslims can celebrate that. Christmas tree is a symbol, and each person has their own theory about it and if they want to put it up or not. There are countries where muslims are not allowed, whether socially or by the law, to have a Christmas three. In others, however, where so called modern muslims, believe in God (Allah) but they do not agree or follow a lot of what other muslims believe in, or they are not too religious muslims..almost like christian protestants. So, they might celebrate their holliday, once or twice a year, by inviting their family over for a dinner and that’s it, no 5 prayers a day, and no difference between men and women in any way, and no hurting of other people cause they not only don’t believe in it but dont’ care about taking their own life for religion. Also, most of them do not speak Arabic, and are raised in European, or other countris nothing to do with the Arabic world. So, those kind of muslims are most likley to have a Christmas tree.

I’m from nyc & I’m confused…. If muslims don’t celebrate Christmas then why are they always standing online around Christmas time taking christmas presents? :/ .. I feel like this If you don’t celebrate it then you shouldn’t be taking Christmas gifts from anyone …. Plain & simple..

Christians celebrate it on the 25th yes because it was the paygans holiday to hide who they were celebrating. they were being killed for being christians. and so to be able to celebrate it they moved the original day to the 25th to conceal they’re true worship.

they never moved it back because by the time it would have been ok people just knew it to be that day. and almost every christian knows this who truly studies the bible or goes to church and listens. every year the pastor says it and every year the pastor reminds us to be thankful for being able to celebrate it freely now.

I have only a few words , I read through all the comments and I am not surprised that the world is at war . Everything written are perceptions and perception is ones reality . RELIGION IS IN YOUR HEART PERIOD ! Everyone was conceived in exactly the same way , God blew life into everyone of us the same way, we are all creations of God the same way . A date is man made , a calender is man made. If everyone threw away their clocks and calenders would the world stop spinning ,? would the sun not rise? would the rivers stop flowing ? I dont think so . If a gods child puts up a tree or forgets to pray or celebrates a so called paigon holiday on the 25th or any other date for that matter will he be damned to hell, I dont think so . God most gracious most merciful didnt create mankind in exactly the same conception to put them on this planet then judge and punish them for following the wrong religion , (there is no wrong religion ) Thats not a God characteristic . Just for the record for all of you , everyone of you can justify right or wrong good or bad . Again all perception . Religion is good ……… good deeds , kindness , forgiveness , humiity respect ,and so on . The word MUSLIM means ” submission to god ” period , if you are a jew a christian , a catholic a muslim or anything your heart says is good, then you submit to god . So stop driving wedges between mankind about a date , or a tree or this verse or that psalm , Really people , Just respect one another,s views and perceptions and do good upon your fellow man .

But INJEEL (Bible) is prohibited to muslims to read because in this Holy Book, the People of that ancient time added their own views & opinions. So only it was prohibited for muslim to read and follow it. And in the last, when Prophet MOHAMMAD (PBUH) was sent to earth to guide people, HE was awarded Quraan as well.

* Four Holy Books were sent to this earth by ALLAH –
1) TAWRAIT (TORAH ) = Prophet MOOSA (PBUH)
2) ZABUR ( PSALMS) = Prophet DAWOOD (PBUH)
3) INJEEL (GOSPEL) = Prophet ISA (PBUH)
4) QUR’AAN = Prophet MOHAMMAD (PBUH)

*QUR’AAN is the last Holy Book for Muslims given by ALLAH to his last Prophet MOHAMMAD (PBUH).

People, People, the question was do muslims celebrate anything when we christians celebrate Christmas ? I think we’re a little off track here.
No matter when our savior was born, we celebrate it in December, just as his resurection is celebrated in the spring at Easter. The point is we are trying to follow in our saviors foot steps by spreading the simple message of peace and love which sadly I doubt I will see in my life time.

We cant marry Christian women because there are none left… To be a true Christian you have to be upon what Jesus was upon…. As far as the bible verse about trees…its jeramiyah 10 2-4

Christmas is here to stay. If for an unknown reason Muslims that come to Canada to find a better living they must obey to our Canadian and Amarican culture. What happened at the Seatle airport shouldn’t have to happen. A Rabbi ordered all Christmas trees to be removed and lo and behold the airport staff had te remove all trees. That is how we are losing control our own country. The police should have shot this guy point blank. We don’t need emmigrants from muslim countries to change our laws.

I have a question to the christians. If jesus dies for everyones sins, then why is their hell? Then why do good on earth when you know you will enter paradise? Why belive in the judgement day? The old testament doesnt use the word christ so why is it usen now? Why 3=1 ? Whwn religion is supposed to make sense? How can god be jesus and then die? How can god die? Doesnt it make more sense to think jesus was a prophet? And beliwve god is One. Why eat swine when the bible says dont? Why dont women cover their hair ehen they pray when it says to? I feel muslims follow the bible far more than the Christians, May God help you to find the true path…celwbrating xmas or not, whats the big deal. It has no religious meaning, therefore is meaningless.

If as Muslims we can respect the actual reason why Christmas is being celebrated (Birth of Jesus) regardless of the accuracy of the date then there is no harm in it. Muslims have to remember that for practicing Christians, Christmas really is about Jesus. Islam holds the prophet Jesus in high regard and since no one can actually give an exact date for their birth then sit back and respect the actual meaning of christmas.

Allah knows best… So all Muslims refrain from judging as only Allah has the power and right to do that… Ameen.. A Christian might celebrate Xmas and drink alcohol allday long but also might feed a stray dog or give to charity every day???!! Let Allah judge our deeds, and as a Muslim alhamdulillah we should refrain from judging others, we are beings and haveno right in this matter, knowledge of this is with Allah only… I am a revert so I look at this matter with a open mind and I read the Quran daily. Some religions don’t allow eating pork because that religion at some point put a taboo on it. There is nothing wrong with eating pork… it’s the other white meat… pork chops are healthy…bacon and ham taste great! Do you really suppose God would condemn people because they eat pork? You need to think back when the taboo was written. Let’s look at pork in the time when such a thing was written. Swine love mud and you need lots of water to make that. It’s how they keep cool. Was there a lot of water in the middle east when these rules were written? No, fresh water was precious and required labor to retrieve. What do pigs eat??? Same food people do. Now we have an animal competing for the same thing people need. The ideal solution is to put a religious taboo on swine to avoid thirst and hunger when there is drought and small harvests.

I am a Christian and my neighbors, who we adore are Muslin. On Christmas Eve they stopped by and brought my family a beautiful dessert and said they wanted to wish us a “Happy Holiday”. It was so thoughtful and it meant so much to my family. We have a great respect for each other. I want to thank them for their thoughtfulness and I just don’t know what to do. I am looking for an apporopriate way to thank them for their love. Any ideas??

Neighborliness is part of our faith. I’m sure that this family is grateful to have you as a neighbor, and respects you as much as you do them. Neighbors often exchange meals, recipes, produce, and other small gifts. There is no need to give extra thanks, except perhaps to reciprocate in kind. During Ramadan, our neighbors brought over an entire meal – pizza, salad, soup, fresh bread, dessert – even the dishes and cutlery. They had called ahead to check about which day would suit us, the timing of the meal in the evening, and any dietary restrictions. They put a lot of thought and effort into making sure we were comfortable, it really was a beautiful gesture. Of course, we invited them in to join us in the meal, although they insisted that they didn’t want to “impose.” It was a lovely time of sharing, and brought us closer together. -Huda

Can we try together to be tolerant in a secular society? If yes, we can together make this world wonderful, if not ……there shall be no peace.

We must discourage people encouraging others to respond to their malicious intentions by ignoring response seeking sites. Because, we do not gain anything from this, only end up shooting hatred massages.

If if we cannot wind hearts, what is the use? So let us remain claim and be responsible to this socieity.

Asalamu Alaikum, we are not judges to judge others. There is only one judge and that is our Creator ALLAAH. So let us leave everything to HIM to sort this out in the Day of Judgement. And let us put this argument to rest. Insha ALLAH.

I am a Christian, my hubby is a Muslim. In our household there are 4 festivals that we celebrate 2 Eids, and Christmas and Easter as they are the 2 that I was brought up with. As an Orthodox Christian we celebrate Christmas on 7th January (as we go by the old calendar). At the end of the day we all believe in God, and it is very silly to say that everyone else except from Muslims will go to hell .. LOL .. In my life I have met lots of different people from all walks of life, with different believes etc. My circle of friends is also very multi cultural, and every true believer knows that we should all respect each other. At the end of the day Muslims, Christians etc shouldn’t be fighting with each other and be judgemental about each others religions, we should be more scared of the evil that is going on in this world that we live in… IE Illimunatis and devil worshipers…
