"Verily, Allah forgives not the sin of setting up partners in worship with Him, but He forgives whom He wills sins other than that. And whoever sets up partners in worship with Allah, has indeed strayed far from the path." (Quran 4:116)

Shirk is the rejection of the oneness of Allah. It is also the only unforgiveable sin in Islam.

I think that many Muslims are confused about some christians, assuming that the trinity means they believe that Allah SWT has helpers or partners. Having been both evangelical and Muslim, I find this bit of ignorance amusing because neither side understand the other.

I have a friend who is a Mormon and she says that Mormons are non-trinitarian. They believe in ONE God, who they refer to as Heavenly Father.

I get embarrassed when I hear Muslims refer to Shirk. To me, as an American Muslim, it just seems like some Muslims use the term to stir up trouble where there is none. It makes Muslims appear blood thirsty.

So far, the Muslims I know are loving and kind, and do not practice exclusivisim. The judgement is for Allah SWT, and he does not need my help

The question all Muslims should ask, if they dare to stray from their self-imposed theological straitjacket, is why do they so easily and seemingly without reflection, find it so easy to destroy one another. Would the Prophet approve? As a non-Muslim, I admit to being ignorant of many facets of Islam, but the religion itself, its many great principles and virtues, are clearly undermined by the incessant in-fighting and resultant violence not against their avowed enemies but against themselves. What is the world to make of Islam should Assad of Syria decide to kill fellow Muslims by using poisonous gas?
