U.S. Muslims Condemn Fort Hood Attack
A prominent national Muslim civil rights and advocacy group has condemned Thursday's attack on Fort Hood military base in Texas that left at least 13 people dead. The suspect in the shooting is an Army psychiatrist who treated soldiers at Fort Hood for post-traumatic stress disorder.
In a statement, the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said:
"We condemn this cowardly attack in the strongest terms possible and ask that the perpetrators be punished to the full extent of the law. No religious or political ideology could ever justify or excuse such wanton and indiscriminate violence. The attack was particularly heinous in that it targeted the all-volunteer army that protects our nation. American Muslims stand with our fellow citizens in offering both prayers for the victims and sincere condolences to the families of those killed or injured."
In a Thursday evening press conference on Capital Hill, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad reiterated this condemnation and added:
"The motive of the attacker is not yet known. We urge all Americans to remain calm in reaction to this tragic event and to demonstrate once again what is best about America - our nation's ability to remain unified even in times of crisis. We urge national political and religious leaders and media professionals to set a tone of calm and unity.
"Unfortunately, based on past experience, we also urge American Muslims, and those who may be perceived to be Muslim, to take appropriate precautions to protect themselves, their families and their religious institutions from possible backlash."
I don’t think anyone here in the US is going to bother any Mosques or Muslims here. They didn’t do anything. He was probably more phycologically damaged from war than anything else. It certainly didn’t help that we were fighting in Muslim nations. Their are even a lot of suicides among the US military. Americans really don’t like war or killing anyone. They deploy people too often without any break. I think really he just snapped. Pray for him and his family, and the families of those that lost loved ones or were injured.
He didn’t snap from the war he has never been in combat
True he was not in combat. However, there were signs that Hasan was not ready for combat. He was advidly against the war and he tried to leave using conciensous objector status but was told that he wouldn’t recieve it.
He wasn’t being deployed into combat either. He was being deployed to counsel those who were/are fighting.
I don’t think there’ll be any backlash against the Muslim community. It’s easy to see that he was working alone, a man that was deeply disturbed, and not working for an ideology.
I detest what this man has done. I feel like I am stuck in the middle of how this man must of felt because of his religion and ethnic background. He was trying to prevent himself from being deployed. But still, to take guns into a secure area where the soldiers were being prepared for deployment; and with upper officers they should have been able to trust, is the worst he could have done. As I said earlier I feel like I am stuck in the middle…..I have a son in the military, that should have been there in Texas being prepared for deployment, and I am so thankful to Allah that he was safe at home with his family; however I also have a young son that is of arab decent and a muslim. My heart goes out to these families that lost their children or loved ones. I called my son right away and told him how much I love him, and I would urge all of you to let those that you love know how much you love them. We never know when something like this could happen to any of us.
What he did was a tragedy both for those he hurt and himself. I have been fearful of backlash but so far the American people are pleasantly surprising me.
He was disturbed, and I am sorry that this got out of control with such heinous consequences.

Well the recent incident in Texas in America was not to be appreciated. It needs criticism for the deadly attacks. Islam in general does not appreciate voilence in any form either physical or mental not only to humans beings but also plants, animals and other living things. It is said in Quran and Hadith that “Who ever kills humans kills whole humanity”. Moreover every humans has to answer for every innocent killings to Almighty God Allah Rabbul Izzat. Islam does not teach or preach violence in any form. You can’t even cut down a green lush tree for no reason in Islam.
