Poll: Muslims voted for Obama

According to a post-election poll by the American Muslim Taskforce on Civil Rights and Elections (AMT), nearly 90% of American Muslims voted for President-Elect Barack Obama last Tuesday. Only 2% voted for Senator John McCain, in what was the the highest turnout ever of American Muslim voters. Many respondents voted in what were considered "swing" states, such as Virginia, Michigan, Florida, and Pennsylvania. Topping the list of voter concerns was the economy (63%), followed by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (16%).

AS. Its interesting to see who our brothers and sisters have voted for but i am sad to see our brothers and sisters have voted at all. Brothers and sisters democracy is a system of kufr, a system which has nothing to do with Islam. It is a foreign system to Islam and muslims as it calls to put men on a level of legislating when we know that soverignty only belongs to Allah. Brothers and sisters as a sincere sister i urge you to research democracy and come to realise it has no place in Islam and therefore should have nothing to do with us. Please spread this message.
democracy and the US constitution line up with the values of islam in that it allows for freedom and tolerance. It is a government run for the people by the people.
Aisha, you sound like a Wahhabist. Most other sects seem to recognize it is OK for us to work within the system of government we live under, while still working towards a caliphate.
Refusal to participate in our democracy is basically a vote for making life harder for all muslims living in America.

Though the muslims votes are minor but when come to deciding factor, muslims votes become the ‘king maker’ or deciding factor. The big muslim voters turnout shows, Bush and Republican hurt the hearts of many muslims in the US. Barack Obama’s last minute speech was beautifully worded because it really touch the heart of not only the muslims but most of the peace-loving Americans. Congratulations Barack Obama.
Good for those who voted, regardless of who they voted for. I see nothing bad about choosing your government. What would you have, Aisha? A dictatorship? If choosing your government is bad, how is it not worse to have a limited few (or one) making all the decisions?

Sister Aisha, Your understanding of the Quran, the verse pertaining to that is true. There are also verses that says you should follow and respect the laws of the land or the system you live up under. The choice in America allows free will, some of us have never had that opportunity so we exercise those freedoms because we can. Some of who had the opportunity since the 1960’s were told it mattered the least whether we voted or not because the interpretation was that ether dog we choose we would still be in the dog house whether the northern dog or southern dog, democrat or republican. So we who have lived under Jim Crow laws think and find for ourself as a duty to vote for the better person cause thats how things change in America. It also says in the Quran if you can’t change a thing you protest it. So this is a form of protesting. Allah is great!
American democracy is only good to all Americans ( Muslims or non - Muslims )This system is fitted to American society as a whole. It doesn’t matter whether you are Muslims or non- Muslims. To leave in harmony must be the priority of all Americans. Let us be sensitive for the issues of cultural differences and the issues of religions. Democracy must practice in America only but should be spread out to other nations likes the nations of the pure Islamic counties because democracy has no rooms on them. To American government leave the Muslims alone. Hope the new President will come up with win win solutions to this conflict.
I am proud to live in in this GREATEST of democracies where the citizens are kind and sincere. I have met people from various parts of the world, and I see more compassion in individuals here, again, individuals.
Yes, the politics, oftentimes does not recognize all Muslims or their rights, but the majority of laws of the land correlate well with Islamic teachings.
I am tired of people - Islamic and others - using the beautiful verses of the Qu’ran to manipulate our minds.

Ashia i would be agree with you if you tell us about an Islamic system, which is alternative to democracy.If we study our own history, it clearly tell us that first three caliphs assumed power though democracy.so i think democracy is compatible with Islam.
I dnt think it matters who we vote for..remember guys this is politics. You cannot say one is more peaceful than the other because they are all evil they are just less evil than one another. if your gonna think politcis this is the way u need to think.
So whats the alternative - sit there quietly on the sidelines letting people who are slaughtering muslims rule the most influential nation in the world today? Many muslims and non-muslims voted in this election not so much for democracy, but to make a statement that says “we will oust you if you dont change your policies”
