American Muslims: Obama or McCain?
Tuesday November 4, 2008
Polls show that Muslims in the United States have not unified around a single presidential choice. There are Muslim-Americans for Obama and Muslims for McCain, and both candidates enjoy support from large segments of the Muslim community. Polls suggest that on social issues, Muslims tend to favor Republican values and policies, while on foreign policy and civil liberty issues Muslims tend to lean Democrat. There is no unified block vote among the Muslim community; rather Muslim voters judge the candidate's character, experience, and judgment on key issues rather than party affiliation.
One thing is certain: Muslims are joining millions of other Americans today to turn out for the vote in record numbers.
