Thursday marks the beginning of the official rites of the annual Islamic pilgrimage, the Hajj. On Thursday, over 2 million pilgrims from around the world will be walking or riding buses from Mecca to the nearby village of Mina. There, they will spend the night in a giant tent city, resting for the next day's rites.
