Ellison blasted for Qur'an swearing-in
Sunday December 24, 2006
Virginia Congressman Virgil Goode has publicly criticized plans for a newly-elected member of Congress to hold the Qur'an during his swearing-in ceremony. Rep.-elect Keith Ellison (D-MN), a long-time convert to Islam, has planned to swear on the Qur'an when he officially joins Congress early next month. In a public letter reported by CNN, Rep. Goode said that such a move should not be allowed, in order to "preserve the values and beliefs traditional to the United States." His letter went on to call for immigration reform so that more Muslims would not be allowed to come to this country.
What do you think? Should elected members of Congress be allowed to hold the religious book of their choice during their swearing-in ceremony? Vote in our poll.

REPRESENATIVE ELLISON IS OF THE ISLAMIC FAITH . THEREFORE HE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO USE THE BOOK HE BELIEVES IN . IT SEEMS TO ME THAT SWEARING IN ON ANYTHING OTHER THAN A QURAN WOULD BE DISHONEST .
