Violence Against Women

Friday December 30, 2005
In Pakistan earlier this week, a man brutally murdered his stepdaughter whom he believed had committed adultery, in a cultural attempt to protect his family's "honor." But he didn't stop there -- he also slaughtered his own three daughters (one as young as 4), presumably so that they wouldn't follow the same path when they got older. The crime rightfully shocked the country and the man is now in police custody awaiting trial. Will the victims receive justice? It is too early to tell.

All types of violence against women -- spousal abuse, "honor" killings, etc. -- are strictly forbidden in Islam. Read here more Islamic opinions about women and domestic violence.
