Courtship in Islam

Sunday April 25, 2004
The wedding season is upon us... How do Muslims meet the person they will marry? Is it arranged by the families? Do Muslims date? How do they get to know their spouse prior to the wedding night?

(1) Matter says:

It depends on how you define “arranged”. In most Muslim families the guy family proposes a girl through her elders (parents) then if the girl’s parent like like the guy and the guy’s parents like the girl… they arrange a time for the girl and the guy to meet. they dont meet alone usually few family members are around. for example the girl and the guy can be talking in one living room and the parents will be around like in another living room. The girl and the guy are not left alone…. and if they like each other than the wedding is planned!!!! And let say if a girl likes some guy from before than she is not suppose to date him. In fact, the guy she likes should send his parents with the proposal to the girls place!!! i hope this answers your question
